Hi all. Just a quick note from the floor at the KY Crafted show. Yesterday and today were for buyers for galleries and stores, and Saturday and Sunday are open to the public. New Class starting Jan 18th

I'll be starting a weekly "Knitting Basics" class at the Harpeth Art Center on Monday evenings from 6-8. The class is designed for beginning knitters or intermediate knitters who would like some help with a project or reading patterns or a specific technique or whatever! For more information, please don't hesitate to ask me, or check the Art Center website. I am also teaching felt workshops there in the next couple of months. Check it out!

Memphis Art Holiday Sale

Hi all! Just wanted to invite folks to come out and see the NEW Harpeth Art Center in Pegram. Mud Puddle Pottery has moved and expanded into the old Harpeth Clock and Quilt Building, and I plan to teach felting and other fiber arts there starting in 2010! At the reception this Friday night I'll be there demonstrating, and my work will be for sale there at least through Dec 20! Come out and see me! (P.S. Loom for sale

Slightly off-topic, but my LeClerc 4-harness Nilus loom is still for sale. I'm asking $700 for the loom with several different sized reeds. It comes with free weaving lessons, some yarn, and other equipment as well! Please contact me if you are interested, I'll be happy to deliver it, even, for the cost of gas. I need to get this loom out of my new studio to make room for me to work on felt!

Long overdue workshop pics

Here are some of the pictures from our purse workshop at the Knaughty Knitter back in the summer. We had a small but very fun workshop and had the neighbors coming over to check out what we were decorating the hedges with! (Mine is the smallest one! LOL) We did purses in one 6-hour day, and one vessel.

Studio update, Fiber Fest, & Hat Class!!

I'm so excited to have a new studio finally up and running with all of the bugs worked out! Yaaay! I have been moving and living in a much smaller space, with a lot of my stuff in storage somewhere else, and it was making it very hard to function. But now even though my studio is an hour away from my house, I now have everything I need there to function completely, including internet access on my own computer, and a working space with storage! And I can stay there for days at a time, really, so it's not like I have to commute back and forth every day. It's like having my own artists retreat, so lovely!

AND

We are discovering yet again that organization is not my strong point! Yes, there will be the usual Fiber Festival at the Harvest Days at Cannonsburg on Saturday, Oct. 24th. Please come and see all that our lovely local fiber community has to offer! (Cannonsburg historic village is in Murfreesboro). If you need help or would like to be there as a vendor, please let me know. It's always a lovely day, and fun to bring your spinning or knitting and hang out with us for a while. I am making a firm resolution to be more organized about this next year. Starting with putting notes as reminders for next year when I need to see about getting it on the calendars for Spinoff and other magazines. Doh!

Felt Hats! Come and make felt hats with us at the Knaughty Knitter on October 31. No, you won't have to make a Halloween themed hat! Just let me know or contact the Knaughty Knitter (in Murfreesboro) if you are interested. Spaces are filling up fast!

Sun sighted at TACA

Today at around 2:30 in the afternoon the SUN finally made an appearance at the TACA fair! (Note the bright sunlight hitting the stuff on the chair directly behind me in the picture...) So come on out, the weather should be fine tomorrow, and I will be in the Demonstration tent again doing wet felting. Please come by and say "hi!". My work is also for sale in the TACA Chapter tent.

It's TN State Fair time!! Waa hoo!

Great things are happening at the State Fair this week! Check 'em out - Sheep to Shawl competition runs all week, with my team competing tonight (Tuesday) and Friday nights, in the Creative Arts building. And other teams are competing at different times. Plus on Thursday night at 7:30 in the Sheep Barn there is the Spinning Competition. Novice categories included! Come and enter, or just watch the fun!!!

(P.S. If you are looking for a loom, my 4-H Leclerc Nilus 45" will be at the fair, and it's for sale!)

I am so pleased that Julie has chosen to hang the rug I made for her in her office/guest room. It looks lovely next to the plates with her happy faces on them, and covers the fuse box nicely! LOL

It was made using prefelts of white merino, natural colored merino (the darkest), a blend of merino and angora (the smooth med. brown) and uncarded shetland (the bumpy brown that still shows the locks of wool). I really love the texture of the uncarded wool. I will have to use in in more rugs!! The weave pattern is called basket weave, I think. I love it this oversized.

What a gorgeous place this is! Had a lovely drive up here on SR 64 along the Ocoee, and drove right past where they had the whitewater events at the Olympics. Beautiful ride, and apparently popular with motorcyclists, because I even saw a campground just for bikers! Of course, the John C. Campbell Folk School is here, too. I also visited the Yarn Circle, which also carries spinning and weaving supplies. Whee! Julie bought some yarn and needles and I have started her on a mobius strip cowl project. I have also been enjoying watching Julie and Harry work in their pottery studio next to their gorgeous house.

Spring TACA Craft fair is May 1-3 in Nashville

Hi all. Make plans now to attend the 38th annual Tennessee Craft Fair in Nashville's Centennial Park. 10-6 Friday and Saturday, 10-5 Sunday, May 1,2 & 3. This is the one time each year when you can support your local economy by buying directly from local artists. This is a tough time for many artists, so come out and see us! And I'm happy to note that one of my favorite Nashville artists, Susan Moody, has a bracelet featured on the front of the postcard this year. I own some of her jewelry, and it is fabulous. I get complements every time I wear it!

I wanted to share this photo - I took a purse workshop at the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene, OR last summer, with Lori Flood. She does very cool work, and teaches a great workshop, if you ever have a chance to take from her. I am still using many of the techniques that she taught that day!

Kentucky CRAFTED a Success!!

I had a fabulous time in Louisville, at my first wholesale show. I managed to put together an indoor booth, complete with lights, and was very pleased with it! I also went up by myself, which was another feat, considering it was 4 days long. I introduced myself to a number of folks in Kentucky, and some from as far away as Montana! If you are traveling in Berea, KY, in the future, look for my work in the Appalachian Fireside Gallery!

Picking wool
Carding by hand and a drum carder
Spinning on a wheel and a drop spindle
Dyeing with natural dyes
Weaving a shawl on a triangle loom

This will be a hands on demonstration with partipation of all students. If you are a beginner or if you know how to do some of these things, but not all and would like to learn, this is a great time to learn some new skills and at the same time have a good time with people with like interests. We will provide a lunch and all necessary tools & materials.
Fibers, wheels, accessories, books and fiber animals (sheep & angora rabbits) will also be for sale. You will not take home a finished project, but the skills necessary to do this on your own. You will take home a lot of information and knowledge. A finished project for each of you would take more than one day.

CRAFT - update + Other Events

Well, as you will have noticed, the CRAFT sale on Sunday at the Lipstick was cancelled due to the ominous weather forecast. It will happen this coming Sunday, June 8 instead -
BUT
I won't be in town for that weekend. I am, however, signed up for the next one, on July 6! (Hopefully it will be a wee bit cooler than it's predicted to be this weekend - whew!!)

Look for me as a "Featured Artist" for July on the CRAFT website!

Felt workshop followup

Hi all!

We had a small but enthusiastic felt scarf class at the Middle TN Wool and Fiber Fest in Dickson last weekend. Thanks to my wonderful students for bringing shredded silk sari threads - they look absolutely wonderful in the wool felt! I know they will look forward to the first opportunity to show off their scarves - even if it isn't a cold day!

The fiber fest was a wonderful treat, full of interesting workshops, wonderful fibers and tools, and lots of adorable fiber (and some non-fiber) animals. Check out the website for information on this and future fiber festivals in our area!!

For those of you that might have missed the May TACA Craft Fair, there will be another chance (assuming it doesn't rain) to come and see me! I will be making an appearance at the CRAFT: a creative community 1st Sunday Craft sale in East Nashville in the parking lot of the Lipstick Lounge. There will be a whole herd of cool, hip, and new handcrafted items for sale there - I think you'll love the whole vibe. The sale day runs from 11-5, so I hope to see you there!!

TACA is here! (Well, almost...) I am so excited because I am going to have a whole bunch of new things in my booth this year. New gift items, summer-weight silk scarves, and my new Planet Purse! (There aren't many of these yet, they are such a new design!) And that's not all!

Come out and see what's new!! I'll be near where I was last May, in the row closest to West End Avenue.
